What this site collects

Last updated October 15, 2026

The short version

  • This site has no accounts, no forms, and nothing to sign up for.
  • It uses Google Analytics to count page views and clicks on links to other sites. Google Analytics sets cookies only if you click Accept in the bar at the bottom of the page.
  • If you decline, or don't choose, no analytics cookies are set, but Google still receives a basic, cookie-free notice of each page you view (details below).
  • The company that hosts the site keeps a technical log of each request, including your IP address.
  • You can use the whole site with analytics declined or blocked.

Google Analytics

If you accept analytics, a script from Google records:

  • the page you viewed, its title, and the page or site that sent you here, if your browser shares it
  • the address of any link you click that leads off this site, such as LinkedIn or GitHub
  • your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and language
  • your approximate location (country, region, and city), which Google works out from your IP address
  • a random ID stored in a cookie, so repeat visits from the same browser can be counted together

It does not collect your name or email address. This site doesn't ask for them.

If you decline, or haven't chosen yet, the Google script still loads, but it uses Google's Consent Mode: it sets no cookies and stores no ID. It still sends Google a short notice for each page view, including the page address, the time, and your browser details. Because it has no ID, these notices can't be linked together as one visitor.

Why: to see which pages and projects people look at, and which links they follow, so I know what is useful.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies. Only if you accept analytics does Google Analytics set two:

  • _ga, which holds the random ID
  • _ga_R24K9LD7H4, which keeps track of your current visit

By default both last up to two years and are renewed each time you visit.

To remember your Accept or Decline choice, the site saves one setting, analytics-consent, in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and isn't sent to me or to Google.

Server logs

The site runs on Railway. Like most web hosts, Railway logs each request: your IP address, the time, the page requested, and whether it worked. These logs are used to keep the site running and fix problems.

Who receives this information

  • Google receives the analytics data. Google explains how it uses data from sites like this one at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
  • Railway hosts the site and keeps the server logs.
  • Cloudflare runs the domain's DNS, the system that points browsers to the site. Visits to the site do not pass through Cloudflare.

I don't sell this information.

Your choices

  • Accept or decline. The bar at the bottom of the page asks before any analytics cookies are set. You can change your answer at any time: Declining after you accepted deletes the _ga cookies from this site.
  • Block analytics. A content or tracker blocker, or your browser's tracking protection, stops the Google Analytics script completely, including the cookie-free notices. The site works the same without it.
  • Google's opt-out. Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every site.
  • Clear or block cookies. Deleting the _ga cookies resets your ID. Blocking cookies for this site stops new ones being set.

The site does not respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. Use the Accept or Decline buttons instead. If your browser blocks local storage, the site can't remember your choice, so the bar will ask again on each page.

Analytics data isn't linked to your name, so I usually can't find a particular person's data. If you have a question or request, email me at chuang30@lion.lmu.edu.

If you email me

The Email link opens your own email app. Your message goes to my email provider, not through this site.

Changes

If what this site collects changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
